The mat is designed to be perfect for low-pile carpets with a thickness of 1/4" or less. To determine the thickness of your carpet pile, place a penny on its edge, directly into the carpet. If Lincoln's chin on the penny is above the carpet pile, your carpet is 1/4" or less.
In the event that the mat does not lay flat on the floor, you can try using a hair dryer set to high heat for approximately 15 minutes. This should soften the plastic enough for the mat to lay flat.
